Features

You know that woman with the fabulous style, you see her walking down the street in a new pair of jeans, her boyfriend's t-shirt, and her grandma's vintage blazer. Her effortless style blends textures, eras, and is casual chic. Much like this dapper dame, 242 Oakland Ave is a 1908 Bungalow with classic period features and old fir floors, enhanced with an 11-year-old foundation, modern bathrooms and a dreamy backyard with pergola. Elevated from the street but in the heart of the city, she is a classy woman in the center of it all.

Sonja and Justin purchased this 111-year-old Craftsman home with built-ins, pocket doors, and old brick fireplace, as they were drawn to the bones. To complement the space, they renovated the main bathroom with porcelain tiles and touches of marble. The smashing backyard is studded with mature agaves, maples, hellebores, oakleaf hydrangeas to name a few specimens. The pergola is covered in wisteria and jasmine.

Neighborhood

On the shores of Lake Merritt (the "Jewel of Oakland”), you'll find Adams Point. Adams Point is tucked between the Uptown Oakland and Grand Lake neighborhoods. Home to condominium buildings and single-family homes, Adams Point is a densely populated enclave. Two architectural gems, The Bellevue-Staten and the Beaux-Arts-styled Regillus building, boast amazing views of the lake.

Urban boating is available courtesy of the Lake Merritt Boating Center, which; offers sailing classes; rents kayaks, canoes, and sailboats; and allows you to bring your own boat for a small fee. Nearby Lakeside Park includes Children’s Fairyland, a storybook theme park that has delighted generations of kids and served as a model for Disneyland Park. The three-mile pathway around the lake hosts hundreds of runners and walkers each day.

Adams Point is a short stroll from the 19th Street Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station and a Uptown Oakland, home to the Paramount Theater, the Fox Theater, and numerous bars and restaurants. Grand Avenue, which runs along the neighborhood’s southern border, also offers plenty of dining options — including Sidebar, Coach Sushi, and Barlago Italian Kitchen.
